Eye examinations

When…?

Regular eye tests are important – the sooner that issues with your vision are detected, the greater the chance of successful treatment. This is particularly true with young children and the elderly.

Unless otherwise advised, you should have an eye test every two years by a qualified Optometrist. Depending on your age and medical or eye history, it may be necessary to have an eye test more frequently.

The results of an eye test do not only relate to your vision and eye sight; they can also reveal a number of underlying health problems. It is therefore important to include a regular eye test as part of your general health check-up.

Why…?

The results of an eye test can reveal a number of underlying health problems.

Some common general health issues that an eye test can help to diagnose and/or monitor include:

  • Headaches
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Autoimmune conditions e.g. Rheumatoid Arthritis

An extensive number of ocular (eye-related) conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration can also be diagnosed and routine visits allow for effective and efficient treatment and monitoring.
